Doyle feeling rosy about new chat show
HIS new RTE chat show begins this Saturday night and insiders had tipped him for another big station job. But Craig Doyle last night firmly ruled himself out of the race for host of the Rose Of Tralee.
Reports had linked the 39-year-old Dubliner to the job after host Ray D'Arcy last week announced he was stepping down from the beauty pageant after five years. However, Doyle said he wasn't interested.
"The Rose Of Tralee? Not me. I'm stuck into a chat show for the next eight weeks and along with my commitments to ITV Sport. Even if I wanted to host the Rose of Tralee, I couldn't because of the schedule I have at the moment," he told the Irish Independent.
He will prerecord 'Tonight With Craig Doyle' on Wednesday night, where guests will include pop manager Louis Walsh.
Part chat show, part game show, part music show, Doyle said whatever viewers made of his first edition of his show this Saturday night, he wanted it to be a "positive experience".
"I know when I' m at home on a Saturday night with my wife and we have put the kids to bed, I want to see something on TV which will make me happy. That' s my aim," he said.
Doyle said he had seen very little of Brendan O'Connor's rival Saturday night talk show, which ended last week, but said he intended his show to be different.
"Brendan had his style. I have mine. . . We probably have very different views on things," he said.
