HE’S a self-professed nerd – and Ryan Tubridy dressed up for the part today to help promote the BT young Scientist exhibition.

The 2FM  host looked very like Austin Powers in his thick framed specs – and completed the ensemble with a white lab coat.

The broadcaster will take his morning radio programme to the RDS tomorrow to0 bring listeners a taste of this year’s exhibitons.

He told RTE that he is looking forward to meeting his ‘fellow nerds’ in ‘the cauldron of hormones’ that is the young scientist.

The annual science competition will crown its 50th winner on Friday.

Around of 2,000 applications were received for the 2014 competition, with the top 550 projects going on display at the RDS until Saturday.

Up to 45,000 people are expected to spill through the doors and with a momentous birthday to toast, several of the past winners will be in attendance.
