Hayley’s final appearance in Coronation Street will air tomorrow at 7.30pm on TV3.
Hayley Cropper’s story drew to a close last night as she passed away with her husband Roy by her side, when she took a lethal cocktail to end her own life.
Viewers have been gripped by the storyline since Hayley told conflicted husband Roy she wanted to die with dignity and in control of her own mind.
Hayley, played by actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Autumn of last year.
The cancer was terminal and she told husband Roy she wanted to die on her own terms, an action her husband passionately disagrees with.
Viewers have seen Hayley's condition steadily deteriorate over Christmas and New Year.
On Friday night, she appeared to say goodbye to long-standing friend and employer Carla Connor.
The success of last night's show was also on the scale of ‘The Sunday Game’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final' (round one) was watched by 889,400 people. Its replay two weeks later pulled in 629,900.
