TV3 News anchor Alan Cantwell (pictured) has explained that he could have spent another 10 years at the station, but wants to try other things while he still can.
The broadcaster has announced that he will leave TV3 on December 31 after 14 years there.
His co-anchor, Collette Fitzpatrick, is expected to continue their news bulletin programme, TV3's flagship 'News at 5.30', on her own.
He told the Irish Independent that he hasn't ruled out approaching RTE in the future and would even be willing to uproot his family to move to the US if any offers did arise.
"To be honest, it's something I had under consideration for a number of months. There just comes a time and point in your career when you want to try something different."
TV3's programming head, Ben Frow, has announced his intention to leave too at the end of the year.
