Brendan O'Carroll on falling in love with his wife Jenny: 'She was so serious about acting that I christened her 'Frosty'"
Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has revealed that it was not a case of ‘love at first sight’ for himself and his wife Jenny Gibney.
The star – who plays Agnes Brown in the popular sitcom – thought Jenny was “so serious” about acting that he christened her “Frosty”.
And it wasn’t until a few years later that love finally blossomed.
Brendan – who is anticipating massive success for his film Mrs Brown’s Boys: D’Movie - can recall the exact moment that he fell in love with her.
“She was so serious that I christened her Frosty,” the comedian told the RTE Guide.
The pair became friends while working together on The Course.
Brendan explained: “One morning I came down into the breakfast room and I spotted that Jenny was doing the Irish Times crossword. On the way out I stopped and asked her whether she was doing the Simplex or the Crosaire. ‘The Crosaire’, she said.”
“Now she was also smoking Consulate. The last person I saw smoking Consulate, drinking coffee and doing the Crosaire was my mother.”
“I sat down with her and we finished the crossword.”
“The next morning, she left a photocopy of the crossword at my table.”
The pair married in 2005, and Brendan proposed to her after a long night of writing.
“It was about 5am and I had been writing all night... I sat on the bed watching a bit of telly. I wasn’t tired. Jenny was asleep in the bed beside me. I looked at her and thought: ‘God what would I do if she wasn’t there tomorrow?’”
“I knew I wouldn’t like that. So I asked her to marry me.”
Brendan's first big screen outing as Mrs Brown has reportedly sold €1.25m worth of advance tickets in the UK.
Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie hits the big screen in the UK and Ireland on Friday June 27th.
