Blathnaid set to return to RTE’s afternoon line-up

Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh.

BLATHNAID Ni Chofaigh is set to return to the day time TV fold as part of RTE’s new afternoon television show.

The red haired TV presenter hasn’t been seen on afternoon TV since she acrimoniously departed the axed Afternoon Show over a bullying row with co-host Sheana Keane.

The presenter, 41, will present new show ‘today’, which will be broadcast live from Cork as part of cost cutting measures by the cash strapped state broadcaster.

Bosses at Montrose are still in the process of choosing co-hosts for the new show, however it is believed they are close to choosing Radio 1 presenter John Creedon and ‘Big money show’ presenter Sinead Kennedy.

Blathnaid recently told a friend: “I’m being banished to Cork. It’s going to be quite hectic in our house in Dublin this autumn, with me away during the week”.

“A lot of people’s contracts haven’t been renewed, a lot of people are coming to the end of their contracts and you just have to keep going”, she continued.

Many RTE stars, like Pat Kenny, Ryan Tubridy and Miriam O’Callaghan, are on fixed term contracts with the station, however Blathnaid holds a permanent position.

RTE is struggling to balance its budgets – The deficit for the year is estimated to be €57m. The broadcaster is looking to shed 200 jobs later this year.
