The 26-year-old, known for playing Neasa Dillon, will star as Lyndsey Conklin in the Belfast-set chiller.

She will appear alongside X-Files star Gillian Anderson and former model Jamie Dornan, who plays a serial killer who murders women after kissing his family goodnight.

Filming was pushed back as Dornan was shooting 50 Shades of Grey, but it eventually started two weeks ago and will continue for three months.

Castleknock-based Garrihy left Carrigstown after three years last summer to pursue other projects.

In February, she finished a two-month sell-out adaptation of Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice at the Gate Theatre in Dublin.

She has also been invited to take part in the play when it goes on tour overseas, including a stopover at the 2015 Hong Kong Arts Festival.

But Garrihy is not the only Irish star in The Fall, a joint BBC/RTE production. Also in the cast is Tara Lee, best known as Emma in RTE's Raw.

Gillian Anderson, who plays detective Stella Gibson in the show, is set to star in another big budget drama.

Her new US-made television show Crisis, introduced to audiences Stateside this month, will enjoy its European premiere on TV3 shortly.

The Ballymount broadcaster has picked up the rights to distribute the NBC programme in Ireland.

Crisis tells the story of a Secret Service agent who finds himself at the centre of an international emergency on his first day. In his search for the truth, he has to cross moral and legal lines and confront corruption.
