Anthony Davidson, the former British Formula One racing driver, has been named as the favourite by bookies to take over as the Stig from Ben Collins.

Ben Collins, another British racing driver, was revealed as the current Stig after the High Court rejected an injunction by the BBC to prevent the Top Gear star from releasing his autobiography.

Meanwhile, Davidson has raced for Minardi, Super Aguri and been a test and/or reserve driver for the British American Racing, Honda and Brawn GP teams. He is currently a commentator for BBC's Radio 5 Live Formula One coverage, factory driver for the Peugeot Le Mans team and simulator driver for Mercedes GP.

William Hill has set the odds for Davidson, 31, at 4/1 with Nigel Mansell at 10/1 and Schumacher at an unlikely 100/1.

"We think Anthony Davidson would make a great Stig but you could be waiting for several years before the next one is unveiled," said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

The bookmaker has also said that Ben Collins' forthcoming autobiography has a 12/1 shot to be the Christmas number one book.

Odds released by William Hill.

Who Will Be The New Stig?

4/1 Anthony Davidson, 9/2 Damon Hill, 9/2 Russ Swift, 5/1 David Coultard, 7/1 Mark Webber, 10/1 Nigel Mansell, 66/1 Lewis Hamilton, 66/1 Jenson Button, 100/1 Michael Schumacher
