The ITV shows, called Text Santa, promise appearances from "some of the most loved names from television, music and showbusiness" and will spotlight the work of charities around the country and encourage viewers to donate to them by text.

The Geordie duo said: "We're proud to be part of ITV's Text Santa. It's a fantastic way to highlight the work of UK charities and what they do at this special time of year."

The first show on December 11 is followed by another on Christmas Eve. The chosen charities include the Samaritans, Crisis and the Great Ormond Street Children's Charity.

Schofield said: "We hope we'll raise lots of money for very deserving charities whilst having lots of festive fun. There will be exclusive performances from top guests and surprises for some of the country's most deserving people."

Bleakley said she was "totally thrilled" to be involved, adding: "I'm sure the British public will help us raise Christmas sacks full of money for some incredibly worthwhile causes after witnessing some of the often unsung work they do all year round."
