Anne grabs 390,000 viewers in her TV quiz comebackDELIGHTED: Anne Doyle
IT was a ‘good evening’ for Anne Doyle as she captured almost 400,000 viewers with her TV comeback.
However, the 61-year-old revealed she wasn't one of them as she was worried how she might appear back on screen in the pilot for new TV quiz Division which debuted last Sunday on RTE1 TV.
“I waited a few days to watch it. I thought it was very entertaining and I'm delighted so many people tuned in,” Anne Doyle told the Herald.
With audience numbers of 390,000, RTE bosses could yet decide to commission the quiz for a full series in 2014.
Two years ago, Anne presented her last news bulletin on Christmas Night 2011.
Filmed in RTE last September, Division features 32 strangers divided into two contesting groups who are asked to choose a group leader to face the former newsreader's questions.
A role which has proved perfect for the Wexford woman, but who modestly credits the crew with the success.
“I expected to be going into a studio full of strangers, I was wrong,” she said.
“They were all professionals I'd worked with before and who went out of their way to look after an old lady returning to work. That really made a huge difference.”
Ever the perfectionist, the former newsreader said there are things she would do differently should Division be turned into a full series.
“As it was a pilot it was done on a much smaller budget than a normal show and again it worked so well it is such a credit to the team,” she said.
Adding that she “didn't have a clue” whether RTE would commission the pilot into a full series, Anne said she was getting on with Christmas plans with long term partner Dan Grattan.
“What will be, will be,” she joked.
Working as an ambassador for Wexford during the year of The Gathering, Anne has spent much of the year travelling to destinations including Jamaica and Portugal.
