American drama still the 'boss'
The consistently high quality of American cable dramas continues to astonish. The latest to come to our screens is Boss (More 4), featuring a ferociously good performance by Kelsey Grammer as a ruthless Chicago mayor who's just been diagnosed with terminal brain degeneration.
This revelation doesn't make him a nicer guy, either to his colleagues or his rivals – indeed, the political scene as depicted here is so grubby and vicious as to make the shenanigans portrayed in House of Cards seem almost naively innocent.
Sadly, due to poor audiences, cable channel Starz killed off Boss after two seasons, so catch it while you can.
