One man stole the show at last Friday’s VIP Style Awards – and that was RTE star Marty Morrissey.

That’s according to VIP publisher Michael O’Doherty.

In his column in today’s herald, organiser heaped praise on the sports broadcaster who attended the awards on Friday night.

While women across the world will be sad that George Clooney appears ready to pop the question to his new girlfriend, the women in Ireland should be thankful they have Marty, the publisher said.

“But the women of Ireland can comfort themselves that the other most eligible bachelor remains untamed.

“Marty Morrissey stole the show on Friday night, judging by the hosts of adoring women hanging off his arm, the twinkle in his eye and gleam in his smile still hold the same allure as ever.

“George may be gone, but the good news is that Marty is still available, and all you need is a shared interest in All Ireland finals and dancing till dawn,” O’Doherty wrote.

Marty’s popularity knows no bounds – comic Mario Rosenstock has now included a Marty segment in his upcoming nationwide tour.

O’Doherty also heaped praise on fellow RTE broadcaster Joe Duffy.

“Though two of the most popular stars of RTE, both Marty and Joe keep a low profile away from work, and tend not to get sucked into the Irish social scene.

“But anyone in the Marker Hotel on Friday night would have considered them veterans of the game, as they happily posed for one photo after another with an endless stream of guests.

“Joe seemed to be in his element, despite various protestations that he was about to call it a night, he was still chatting to people at 3am in Coppers.”
