And for brave Dublin schoolgirl Amy McNally, it’s a reality.

Dublin’s All-Ireland winner Paul Flynn embraced Amy, before giving her his jersey as he made his way around Croke Park celebrating Dublin’s All-Ireland win with fans.

Amy (11), from Raheny, was among the 80,000 fans cheering on Dublin and Mayo at the All-Ireland final.

Since the age of four, Amy has undergone chemotherapy for tumours behind her eyes which have left her visually impaired, namely in St John’s Ward in Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.

“She has lost her eyesight over the years. She had two years clear of chemotherapy but then in August, we were told she had to go back on it which came as a big surprise.

“It was a real blow to Amy.

“But Dublin winning the All-Ireland has cheered her up,” her dad Ciaran told independent.ie.

Ciaran, Amy, her mum Sally, and her younger brother John (8) went to the final on Sunday to cheer on the Blues. The family are well-known members in north Dublin clubs Fingallians and Raheny.

“Paul Flynn would know Amy – and he would that she has to have chemo.

“Amy walked out as a mascot for in a Dublin league game two years ago, and since then, she’s been absolutely besotted by the Dublin team, particularly Paul Flynn. She’s always sending Paul ‘Good Luck’ cards,” Ciaran explained.

“Myself and Amy were in the Davitt Stand. After the game ended, we walked down behind the goals, and myself and my brother Joey got Paul’s attention.

“He then climbed under the netting behind the goal, gave her a big hug, let us take a picture of her with him, gave her his jersey and ran off,” Ciaran said.

“She was over the moon,” Ciaran said of his delighted daughter

“That jersey will be framed before the end of the week and will take pride of place in her room.”
