Ulster Bank's technical difficulties could have come at a better time, as customers face difficulties buying online during one of they year's biggest shopping days.

Quite a few customers took to Twitter to complain about the cuts to service. Irish swimmer Fiona Doyle was one of those angry users.

"So frustrated with @UlsterBank_Help right now. How am I supposed to buy presents when my card doesn't work?" she tweeted.

Renewable energy worker Ronan Madigan also had some harsh words for the bank, tweeting: "So Ulster Bank's system has crashed again...we got used to 'Ulster says no' in a different context years ago!"

Twitter user Conan Rowan said: "Ulster Bank yet again no money from ATM, visa debit card, internet or app. No petrol for car, no dinner for family."

Student Triona O'Sullivan added her woes online, tweeting: "Dear #UlsterBank as a poor student I would LOVE to be able to use what little funds I have to buy food tonight."

Carer Gwendoline Wade said she had some success with the bank after a while. "I've finally managed to get into my Ulster Bank account online. Working on the phone too," she said.

The bank is down at least one customer, as Maria Armstrong tweeted: "definitely changing bank. ulster bank is down again! Now I've zero money."
