The singer made the announcement yesterday after he said he’d received “some disgusting stuff on What’s App”.

He told his fans: “Time to change my number... Getting some disgusting stuff on what's app... Losers!”

Tomlinson’s former bandmate Niall Horan rowed in behind him, saying that he’d fallen victim to trolling too.

“Me too mate. Horrific Some of the things people are saying,” Horan said.

The boys later joked about how they could "destroy" the trolls in a rap battle.

Tomlinson tweeted: “Maybe we should challenge them to a rap battle and destroy them in 64 bars?”

Horan replied: “That would be way too strong! Would take us less than 64 bars, we're sooooo good.”

“I wonder when they'll stop annoying us!” he added.

Hashtag “Respect Louis” began trending on Twitter.
