Exclusive: Interview with Cork duo behind lifesaving app for Irish shoppers' weary boyfriends
The Android app aims to catalogue all available seats in shops and shopping centers for the weary boyfriends of shopping women.
Wayne Mullins and Paul Sheehan from Cork have invented the perfect app for men with shopaholic girlfriends.
Wayne says he got the idea while shopping in Dundrum with his other half. "After about 2 hours of shopping and 5/6 shops later we ended up in Zara and it had a seating area. For the next twenty minutes I sat down and watched Sky Sports News on my mobile phone while my girlfriend picked out her perfect outfit".
Mullins paired up with Sheehan and they took it from idea to app "by Superbowl Sunday", two days after the idea's inception.
The iPhone app "was submitted to Apple four days ago" so the duo are hoping to see it live "any day soon".
The app, which currently covers Cork, will launch in Dublin in a "few days" and then plans to extend to "Waterford, Limerick and Galway".
"We have a few shopping centres on board already including Dundrum Shopping Center".
"Basically when you are out shopping with your better half you simply download our free app and it will mark your location and tell you where the nearest shop with a seat is".
Not only that but the app "will also have information on what kind of seats... and if the shop supply anything else such as a newspaper, a TV or a coffee machine".
Mullins says the reaction has been "amazing".
"It's been a whirlwind 2 weeks".
The database is built by the men, who previously had to contact each shop individually to question their facilities.
"At the beginning we had to contact the shops ourselves but now shops are contacting us so its great to have them on board".
The app launched on the 2nd of February and trended on the Android Play Store shortly after release as Cork men around the county downloaded the much-needed app.
