Former RTE Current Affairs editor Tom McGuire has been unveiled as the new head of RTE Radio One.
Mr McGuire (58) has been the acting boss for the last six months and was the expected name for the coveted role.
He began his media career in Radio Kerry before moving onto RTE Radio 20 years ago, where he trained as a producer and editor.
He has won a PPI Documentary of the Year Award for his documentary ‘The Siege of Jadotville’ in 2004.
He said of his appointment: “After a generation in broadcasting, it is a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead Ireland’s biggest radio station at a time when the broadcasting environment is at its most competitive and exciting.
"I know that the brilliant team of presenters, programme makers and support staff at RTÉ Radio 1 will build on the success it has achieved under the leadership of Jim Jennings.”
Meanwhile, RTE Radio's Managing Director Jim Jennings, said: “Tom brings a wealth of experience to a key role in RTÉ. Radio 1 will benefit from Tom’s knowledge and passion for radio and I look forward to working with him to maintain Radio 1’s position as the most listened to radio station in the country.”
