BROADCASTER Matt Cooper is on his way to North Korea in the company of retired US basketball player Dennis Rodman.

The Herald understands that the Today FM presenter is working with an English production company for an upcoming TV documentary.

The production will focus on a basketball match between former NBA players who are playing against a communist side on

Wednesday to celebrate the birthday of North Korean leader Kim Jung-Un.

Today FM confirmed to the Herald that The Last Word presenter's visit to the communist country was not connected to the station.

“Matt has taken annual leave from Today FM and is travelling in an independent capacity on this trip,” a Today FM spokesman said this morning.

The station was answering queries after Cooper was spotted on Sky News with Rodman before they flew out to Pyongyang.
