Tracey Emin surprises fans as she marries... a rock
Artist Tracey Emin has surprised fans by marring an inanimate object: a rock.
Emin, the artist who was made a CBE in the January 2013 New Year Honours List, proves she still has the power to shock the establishment with her latest announcement.
At her current exhibition, I Cried Because I Love You, in Hong Kong, the 52-year-old revealed that she had married a rock.
The artist married the ancient French stone last summer wearing her father's white funeral shroud.
The ceremony took place in Emin's garden in France where the rock still stands.
She told The Art magazine: "It just means that at the moment I am not alone; somewhere on a hill facing the sea, there is a very beautiful ancient stone, and it’s not going anywhere.
"It will be there, waiting for me."
In another interview she has called it “‘an anchor, something I can identify with”.
"The other thing about the stone is that it could be quite monstrous and scary. Instead I saw it as a protection thing as opposed to a fearful thing."
e ceremony, Emin wore her father’s white funeral shroud. While the ancient stone is thought to be quite a bit older than the 52-year-old artist, the pair are now living in marital bliss — with the rock based in her garden:
‘It’s in my garden, it’s very nice and very impressive and I like it a lot.’
The artist says she feels very secure in her new relationship as the stone is not going anywhere.
