WBO Middleweight World Champion Andy Lee will make his theatrical debut at this year's Dublin Theatre Festival.

Just six days after Lee goes head-to-head with Billy Joe Saunders at Thomond Park, he will tread the boards at Dublin's Samuel Beckett Theatre in a new drama called 'Chekhov's First Play'.

Set in Bolshevik Russia in 1921, the play tells the story of "Chekhov before he was Chekhov".

It is one of nine new Irish plays to feature in this year's festival, which runs from September 24 to October 11.

Enda Walsh, who penned the stage play for the musical 'Once', will bring his new opera 'The Last Hotel' to the O'Reilly Theatre.

Former Love/Hate star Laurence Kinlan stars in 'The Night Alive' at the Gaiety Theatre.

Director of the Dublin Theatre Festival Willie White described the line-up as "dynamic, vibrant and exciting".
