Bafta-winning actor Stephen Rea takes on the role of a paranoid loyalist who thinks his newborn grand-daughter is Gerry Adams in the Abbey Theatre's new production 'Cyprus Avenue'.

The play takes its title from a neighbourhood in east Belfast - which also inspired Van Morrison's 1968 single of that name.

Directed by Vicky Featherstone, the black comedy is a co-production with London's Royal Court Theatre and stars Chris Corrigan.

Abbey director Fiach MacConghail said he was proud to present a new play "that sheds a light on the internal challenges facing the loyalist community today".

The play will run until March 19.
