TV3 recruits Newstalk’s Ivan Yates and Simon Delaney to front weekend episodes of Ireland AM
Ivan Yates, Simon Delaney and Anna Daly will be the weekend faces of Ireland AM as TV3 gets set to expand their popular morning show into a seven day operation.
The weekend shows, dubbed Saturday AM and Sunday AM, are expected to be loosely based on the current Ireland AM format and will be presented by actor Simon Delaney on Saturdays while Ivan Yates will take Sunday’s reigns. TV3’s Anna Daly will help present both editions of the weekend show.
TV3 confirmed Yates and Delaney’s place on the shows this week and the company hopes that the weekend slots will draw in thousands of viewers both male and female.
The format of the programmes has yet to be confirmed, but Saturday AM presented by Delaney is expected to focus on food, show business and music, while Sunday AM is expected to feature more current affairs and a look back at the week’s top stories.
A source told The Irish Daily Mail: “Honestly they couldn’t have asked for a better line-up. Simon is exactly who you would want to host a lighter Saturday show. He can mix the showbiz with the comedy and music.
“He is really competent interviewing guests as well as getting good banter out of them,” the source said.
“Ivan has proved on his Newstalk show that he is able to lead the agenda when it comes to current affairs. He will be able to chair a robust discussion with contributors on a Sunday morning as well as a weekly look back at the news,” said the insider.
Simon Delaney rose to recognition when he starred in RTE’s Bachelor’s Walk and in recent years has starred in popular US drama The Good Wife. Ivan Yates is a former Fine Gael TD who has recently forged a broadcasting career.
Anna Daly, who will feature on both Saturday AM and Sunday AM has established herself on Ireland AM during weekdays and is a much loved presenter on TV3.
“It is an exciting time. It will be filmed in the HD studios, so it will have a very polished look. They both were confirmed this week and TV3 hope to start broadcasting in about two months,” the source said.
