X Men star Patrick Stewart to host new series opener of Have I Got News for You

Patrick Stewart is makign the move from the big to small screen as he has been confirmed as the first guest presenter on the new series of Have I Got News For You.

The X Men star, who recently revealed he's renouncing his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the movie series, said he "couldn't be more delighted" to be taking the hot seat.

“A long awaited and anticipated moment in my career has arrived,” he said. “I am to host the season opener of Have I Got News For You. I could not be more delighted.”

The satirical quiz show will air on Friday April 21 with regular team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton returning.

Guest presenters for the remainder of the series have yet to be revealed.

Angus Deayton hosted the show from 1990 to 2002 but the presenter has changed regularly since then with faces including Jack Dee, Andrew Marr, Bruce Forsyth, Rob Brydon, Miranda Hart and John Prescott taking on the role.
