'Winning Streak winners want to pay off loans' - Marty Whelan
Marty Whelan has said that the days of Winning Streak contestants going on holidays with their winnings are gone.
The TV star said today's post-recession players were more concerned with paying off their mortgages than a foreign break.
"The days of: 'We're off to the Caribbean' are gone," he said.
"Now it's: 'We'll change the car and have a break and pay the mortgage.' It's a whole different world. People now see it as a means to an end.
"When we went through the recession, you found that younger couples - who were in trouble because one of them wasn't working - bought tickets as opposed to the idea it was always going to be your mammy," he said.
