Oprah Winfrey is facing backlash from celebrities and fans alike following the comments she made about Donald Trump's election success.
While speaking to the Associated Press on Thursday, the media mogul admitted that she was in shock over Trump's win and Hillary Clinton's defeat in the US presidential elections.
But Oprah was apparently so impressed by the Republican representative's meeting with Barack Obama that she found a renewed sense of positivity.
She tweeted: "Everybody take a deep breath! Hope lives!"
In a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight, Oprah elaborated on her tweet: “I just saw the two of them together, I will say this: I just saw President-elect Trump with President Obama in the White House and it gave me hope,” she said.
“To hear President-elect Trump say that he had respect for President Obama, it felt that he had reached a moment where he was actually humbled by that experience.”
But Oprah's comments were not well received online and she immediately faced a backlash from fans, including comedian Patton Oswalt who tweeted "Oprah what the f**k? This is not one of my favourite things."
Film writer Scott Weinberg said: "I used to have great respect for Oprah. (past tense)"
Actress Heather Matarazzo tweeted: "Oprah, you can take a deep breath and hold it while the rest of us literally fight for our lives right now. #smh."
