'We had a good deposit but the bank manager laughed in our face' - house hunters tell RTE's Find Me A Home tonight

A couple of house hunters on tonight’s “Find Me A Home” will reveal how a bank manager “laughed” at them when they applied for a mortgage.
Suzanne and Maria will be seen searching for their ideal two-bedroom home in Galway within their budget of around €250,000.
The pair tell RTE how they arrived back from the UK hoping to buy a house a few years ago, but soon learned they hadn't a hope.
“Three years ago we moved back from London. We both came home on contract work. So we went to the bank manager and we said, 'we have a good deposit', and he kinda laughed in our face.”
“He said 'you need permanency and you need to be in a contract for much longer'.”
“After that shot down we just put our heads down and saved, saved, saved.”
The pair have since begun their search for an ideal home again, but stumbled when their bid was lost to a cash buyer.
“We made an offer on one but a cash buyer came in. That was a bit deflating.”
On tonight's show, viewers will see them bidding at an auction for their ideal home.
“We’re going for our first option in a few days time. We have everything ready. We have a deposit ready. We have an engineer doing an engineer’s report for us, solicitor on board, so really it’s up to the day.”
Find Me A Home starts on RTÉ One at 8.30pm tonight
