WATCH: Tom Vaughan Lawlor and Mark Huberman in extended clip of 'Trial of the Century'
A new extended clip of TV3's upcoming Trial of the Century featuring Tom Vaughan Lawlor has been released.
The Love/Hate actor stars as Pádraig Pearse in an imagined, alternative history which grants him the trial he never received in life.
Pearse is forced to defend the Rising while the arguments for and against are put forth.
The series airs over three consecutive nights from Saturday April 30 with the first two episodes shot in Green Street Courthouse in Smithfield and the final instalment recorded in The Lir Theatre on Pearse Street.
The first episode kicks off with the British prosecution presenting its case against the Rising leader.
The question asked is whether or not it was justifiable to stand over so many deaths and destruction of the city when home rule was imminent and World War I was raging?
The second episode sees Pearse defending the Rising by addressing Britain's long history of oppression. He argues that it is legitimate to overthrow a tyrannical regime with force.
The final instalment on Bank Holiday Monday will see twelve modern day jury members deliberate over the trial.
These include Pat Kenny, Professor Patrick Geoghegan, Justine McCarthy, Una Mullaly, Colm O’Gorman, Lynn Ruane, Oisín McConville, Emma Dabiri, Michael Nugent, Nick Leeson, Damien Dempsey and Eleanor Tiernan.
Trial of the Century starts this Saturday at 9.15pm on TV3 and airs over three consecutive nights.
