Game of Thrones fans eagerly anticipating the show’s return have been treated to the first full-length trailer ahead of the season 6 premiere on April 24.
Jon Snow can be seen lying in a pool of his own blood at the start of the new clip, with fans of the show speculating for months if the character will survive for the new season.
The voice of Ser Davos can be heard saying “he’s gone” at the start of the trailer, which features singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow's Wicked Game – but is he really?
It closes with Ser Davos standing next to the body of Snow as he unsheathes a sword, adding: “Apologies for what you are about to see.”
So will Jon Snow live or is he really gone for good? The trailer doesn’t exactly clear it up - but he will at least make an appearance in the new season.
Other lines include:
Jaime to Cersei: “We're the only ones who matter and everything they've taken from us we're going to take back and more.”
Tyrion to Sansa: “You're in the great game now, and the great game is terrifying.”
Melisandre: “The great victory I saw in the flames, all of it was a lie”.
HBO have confirmed that Game of Thrones will return on April 24, 2016. Sky Atlantic will simulcast the premiere with HBO, so UK and Irish fans won't be missing out. The announcement was made via HBO's Twitter account.
After the first four episodes of season five were leaked to a streaming site last year, HBO have decided not to send any previews of season six to media outlets.
The move is particularly understandable, given that season six marks the moment when the narrative of the television series overtakes that of George R R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels – so not even fans of the books now know what happens next.
