“It only took seven years,” laughs Ruth O’Neill on her appointment as the latest presenter for TV3’s Xpose.

With experience presenting for E! News and ABC in Los Angeles, it seems that the TV3 stint will be a walk in the park for the Castleknock native.

Ruth has a long history with TV3, entering a competition to become the next Xpose presenter in 2009.

Despite not winning, Ruth went on to do an internship with TV3 for several months before moving to Los Angeles.

Talking about the show, Total Xposure, Ruth said: “It was like a reality show to find the next Xpose presenter and I ended up getting down to the last three, and I didn’t win it. I went on to intern at TV3 after that.”

Setting her sights on presenting, Ruth booked a one-way ticket to LA when she was just 22-years-old and went on to stay there for five years, covering events on the red carpet for E! News, naming Karlie Kloss and Kate Hudson among her list of celebrity interviews.

In October she guest-hosted two shows for Xpose, and obviously made a lasting impression on the producers.

It was revealed today that the former model is the latest addition to the Xpose family, joining Glenda Gilson, Peter Riordan, Lisa Cannon and Cassie Stokes.

Ruth moved to New York earlier this year when she felt like her career in Ireland wasn’t going anywhere, before getting a call from TV3.

“And then finally got the call that I’d gotten a job. It only took 7 years,” she laughed.

“I had just moved to new York, because I was like ‘Oh I don’t know if anything is really happening for me, here so I’m just gonna give New York a go,’ because I already went to LA for 5 years.”

“So I was only in New York a couple of weeks and I got the call from TV3 and I was like ‘Okay, this is a really cool opportunity,’ so I’m just gonna move back for it. New York will always be there,” she told independent.ie.

When asked what presenting role she’ll be taking on the show, the blonde beauty said isn’t exactly sure what she’ll be doing: “I’m not really sure yet what I’ll be doing. I presume all the celebrity interviews, the fashion segments, beauty segments.

The celebrity interviews would be what I think is more my forte, and what I would look forward to doing,” she added.

With so much experience in TV3 behind her, Ruth is pretty much already part of the Xpose family.

“I always feel really comfortable when I’m in TV3,” she said.

“I mean I’ve been going there since I was a teenager and then entered Total Xposure and always kept in touch with all the girls, asking for advice and I mean I love it.”

Although she’s lived in Los Angeles and New York, two of the most glamorous cities in the world, Ruth says that Dublin will always have a place in her heart.

“I mean I love moving around a little bit. I kind of can’t stay in the same place for very long, but Dublin will always be home.

It’s so awesome to be doing a job that I love in Dublin, at home, because this job is the perfect fit for me as well. And it’s the biggest entertainment show in Ireland,” she smiled.

Ruth will be covering for Aisling O’Loughlin while she’s on maternity leave, but we’ve a feeling that Xpose won’t be the only place we’ll be seeing the TV star.
