WATCH: Horror as man is shot by flaming arrow as stunt goes horribly wrong on America's Got Talent
A misguided flaming arrow shocked viewers of the quarterfinal of America's Got Talent.
In an elaborate sequence, Canadian stuntman, Ryan Stock, successfully performed a sword-swallowing stunt before moving on to the crossbow challenge.
He pushed a steel rod down his throat which had a circular target attached to the end of it - his wife and co-performer, Amber Lynn Walker, was supposed to hit the target with a flaming arrow.
But the trick turned macabre as she accidentally missed and hit Stock in the neck.
As Sunshine and Lollipops played merrily in the background, the judges looked completely horrified as Stock desperately tried to free the arrow from his neck while gagging.
After a few seconds of shocked silence, host Nick Cannon ran out. “He’s okay!” Cannon told the audience, who broke out into a nervous, light applause. “You’re not on fire,” Cannon assured Stock.
“I’m okay, it just caught on my shirt,” Stock said, gasping for breath - but the judges didn't believe him.
“Why are we judging this act? Amber just shot Ryan and he needs to go to the hospital now,” Simon Cowell said.
Addressing the terrifying moment in an interview, Stock said that both he and Amber were "extremely confused".
“We’ve been doing this stunt over and over again in rehearsals, 10 times a day for months," he said.
But he said it wasn't a new scenario, considering he takes dangerous risks for a living.
“I’m a stuntman for a living, I’ve been hurt many times,” he pointed out, though he acknowledged that “it was a scary moment for everyone.”
