A five-month-old puppy called Oober had to undergo a tense hip operation after he was hit by a car.

The brave little puppy, who is a cross between a poodle and a cocker spaniel was in good hands as he was taken to the team at Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital in Cork following his accident.

Oober had been involved in a little tiff with another dog and in order to get out of the way of his canine opponent's bite, the little puppy stepped out on to the road but was hit by a car in the process.

His femur bone was fractured and the vets had to repair that before they could put it back in place, vet Sophie explained.

It was a tense 90-minute surgery and Oober's distraught owner could do nothing but wait as her mind raced with worry.

Tune in to The Pet Surgeons tonight at 8.30pm on RTÉ One to see how the brave little puppy fared.
