The popular chef and food writer was one of the star attractions on last night's chat show, with a lengthy sit-down interview and later, a special segment was arranged for her to meet with local artisan food producers and tasting their trademark products.

Ryan and Nigella seemed to get off the on the wrong foot however, and it all started with a song.

The Camembert Quartet's rendition of 'Sugar Sugar' by The Archies accompanied her entrance on set, which then led to Ryan's first line of questioning about her love of sugar.

"Well, not particularly," she said.

The conversation then steered into her late mother Vanessa Salmon's eating disorder and later about the fact that Nigella, a best-selling cookbook writer, loves food.

Ryan then asked about her latest book, Simply Nigella and enquired about the "autobiographical elements" in it.

"I said the recipe is in autobiographical form. So for me, a book of recipes is like a photo album."

The pair then discussed avocado on toast and Nigella winning a bet about eating an entire jar of pickled eggs once.

Then, the broadcaster surprised the domestic goddess with two of their custom-made Nutella jars with their names Ryan and Nigella engraved on it.

When showing off the jars, he said: "I thought we could be jarred together. That's the last time we'll be side by side like that."

"That is really nice," she responded.

And viewers took to Twitter to express their disappointment in the pair's interaction, describing it as "awkward" and "awful."
