TV3 axe 'Midweek' to make way for new current affairs programme
TV3 have axed 'Midweek' in a new shake-up of their evening schedule.
The commercial channel today announced details of a new documentary unit and new primetime evening show.
'Midweek', which is presented by Colette Fitzpatrick and broadcast every Wednesday night, will make way for shows produced by the broadcaster's new Public Affairs Documentary Unit. The series will produce quality current affairs and topical programming.
Separately, a new primetime evening show will start broadcasting next January.
In a statement, TV3 said the new show will feature TV3 news reporters and will be anchored by a "new name", which the station have not yet revealed.
In another development, sister channel 3e’s news programme ‘fyi’ is to be replaced with 60 second news bulletins throughout the day.
TV3 Group today announces a number of new programming arrangements across both TV3 and its sister channel 3e.
"A new Primetime early evening show will air weeknights from January and add over 127 hours of Irish home produced content to the
stations 2015 schedule," the statement from TV3 said.
"The new nightly show represents a major commitment by TV3 to cover people and items of interest happening all over Ireland. A new anchor host has yet to be announced but this unique show will comprise of some of TV3’s finest reporters, all of whom will report on stories and exciting events from around the country.
"The Midweek team will be subsumed into both the new News and Public Affairs Documentary Unit and TV3’s new early evening programme."
The announcements come in advance of the stations autumn launch later this year, at which TV3 will have a number of new announcements to make.
