Ratings for Pat Kenny's UTV Ireland chat show 'In the Round' slumped to 66,000 on Monday - less than half the viewers of the first episode.
The series premiered last week with 150,000 viewers watching Kenny interview GAA legend Mickey Harte.
However, figures fell by 84,000 this week when Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield took a seat in Dublin's Mansion House.
This is disappointing given it followed 'Coronation Street' with its 416,000 audience.
Kenny's chat show faced stiff competition from rivals, with TV3's special on Brian O'Donnell called 'The Battle of Gorse Hill' pulling in 74,700 viewers; while on RTÉ, a once-off documentary 'Ireland and the Eurovision' secured ratings of 351,800.
Head of channel at UTV Ireland Mary Curtis defended the ratings, saying: "It's early days for this new series, but the feedback from our audience about the quality of the programme has been hugely positive, which is encouraging."
