Nanny Pat, or Pat Brooker, was grandmother to show's star Mark and Jess Wright, and was famed for her hilarious one-liners.

Her family released a statement to the Daily Mail confirming she passed away on Wednesday morning.

"Sadly our amazing, courageous, and beautiful Nanny Pat passed away this morning after a short illness," it read.

"We are overwhelmed by sadness, and the whole family ask for privacy at this horrible time."

Nanny Pat was a regular on the ITV reality show and only recently celebrated her 80th birthday with a royal wedding themed birthday on air.

During the episode she became emotional when granddaughter Jess presented her with a framed photo of her late husband Charlie.

Nanny Pat was a mother of five, including Carol Wright, Jess and Mark's mum, and was grandmother to 14 grandchildren and great-grandmother to six.

In 2012 she published a book, Penny Sweets and Cobbled Streets, about her life in the East End during the Blitz.
