The Chase viewers lashed out at an unfortunate contestant after he gave a pretty poor response to a simple question.

In a stress filled situation people can suffer a bump in mental processing and choke under pressure.

So spare a thought for The Chase contestant Jack, who forgot that he was a real, living and breathing human being when he appeared on the ITV quiz show.

When asked by host Bradley Walsh "what is the only planet in the universe known to support life?," Jack forgot where he was and replied - with the level of self-assurance of a man who knows he has the answer in the bag -  "Mars".

Yes Mars.

Even though The Chase is filmed on planet Earth.

It comes just days after a friendship almost ended on the quiz show Pointless.

Student Mariam was left decidedly unimpressed after her friend Sarah cracked under the pressure and delivered the wrong answer in the very first round.

The players were asked to name any country that ends in two consonants.

Sarah, who claimed she was a "geek society" member at York University, struggled with the topic.

“I did Geography A-Level, but that’s about as far as it goes,” she told presenter Alexander Armstrong, before shrugging and giving the answer: “Paris.”

Mariam gasped at the answer and gave her the death stare, as Sarah panicked: “I don’t know, I can’t think of anything. I’m having a blank.”

Sarah tried to laugh off her embarrassing moment but quickly went silent when she realised she had angered Mariam.

Alexander tried to assure her that she hadn't completely messed up, commenting: "Don't worry, don't worry at all, I mean really don't worry.

"I wouldn't be at all surprised if there aren't several 100 scorers in this round."
