The serviced wash facility has been a staple part of the soap since its opening episode in 1985. But a bombshell dropped last night with the news that the Bridge Street business is set to be turned into a dry cleaners and Dot (June Brown) could be forced out of her job as her boss Mr Papadopolous Jr plans big changes.

Dot got wind that something was amiss when a stranger walked into the laundrette and started inspecting the premises. She was shocked when he informed her about the future of the business.

The news is sure to send the residents into a spin (pun intended). How will they get their hands on clean clothes? It seems they've all happily lived their lives without the incessant drone of a washing machine going off in the kitchen. They think nothing of carting their bags of dirty laundry to Dot each week.

Maybe Ian Beale can lead a protest against the move as it was his mum (Pauline Fowler) who manned the laundrette for more than 20 years? Surely it holds some sentimental value for the business mogul?

Scenes of a distressed Dot worrying about her uncertain future hit viewers hard and they took to Twitter to share their sadness.
