RTÉ’s Glen Killane has been elected President of the European Broadcasting Union TV Committee.
Killane, who is Managing Director, RTÉ Television, was elected on June 3 at the 2015 EBU TV Assembly in Manchester.
The European Broadcasting Union TV Committee oversees the operations of Eurovision TV and assists in steering the operational and strategic direction of events like the Eurovision Song Contest.
It approves the strategy of the EBU television services, controls the television development fund, and plays a key role in establishing standards and procedures.
Director-General, RTÉ, Noel Curran, said, “I want to congratulate Glen on his appointment. The EBU is an increasingly important organisation for RTÉ.
"European Public Service Media Organisations are looking to find common strategies, develop co-production opportunities and share knowledge in an increasingly competitive and changing media world.
"The fact that RTÉ will occupy this key role of President of the EBU TV committee gives Ireland, and Irish public-service media, a strong presence within the EBU.”
The EBU comprises 72 active members in 56 countries and 37 associate members from a further 22 countries across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
As President of the EBU TV Committee, Glen will chair all EBU TV assemblies and committee meetings.
