A new Irish drama from RTE "which charts the violent birth of modern Ireland" is set to hit the small screen early next year.
Five part serial drama Rebellion features a host of well known Irish actors including Love/Hate's Charlie Murphy and Brian Gleeson.
Ian McElhinney and Sarah Greene are also among the cast of the new show which was filmed in Dublin over the summer.
Written by Colin Teevan, the serial's story begins in 1914 when Europe is at war and Britain is preoccupied with the German threat.
However, with the explosion of the Easter Rising in 1916, the personal experiences of those involved in the campaign for independence are chronicled.
“Rebellion will tell personal stories which are intertwined with the political events of the time," RTE's Head of Drama Jane Grogan said.
"However, it is a drama, not a history lesson, and our story is told from the perspectives of a group of fictional characters who live through the political events of 1916. Men, women and children from Belfast, Dublin and London - people whose lives were irrevocably changed by this extraordinary period.”
Rebellion will be broadcast on RTÉ One in 2016 and will be available for distribution on an international basis.
