Niamh Kavanagh has sharpened her kitchen knives for the new series of Celebrity Masterchef - and says she is in it to win.

The former Eurovision winner (48) is one of the well-known faces taking part in this year's series, alongside the likes of Samantha Mumba, singer Mundy and Herald columnist Holly Carpenter.

However, the Dublin singer has admitted her competitive streak has already come out in the early days of filming.

"Of course I want to win," she said.

"I am a little bit competitive. It's about doing the best that I can do. I wouldn't say I would knock you over to get there, but there is an element of competition."

Niamh has found the experience of competing on the show quite stressful.

"The time element is real. It's all quite stressful," she said. "I cook at home and meander through the day, you enjoy the process of it.

"Here you have to really think about the process.

"Everything you do is judged, but I won't be waking up at night worrying. I'm slightly stressed, but excited."

Although she wants to win, the mum-of-two has insisted she won't be beating herself up if she gets eliminated.

"I like things that challenge me and this is definitely a challenge - you're out of your comfort zone," she said.

"You're not defined by it - if you don't do really well on it, it's not your job. It's great, I'm learning loads."

The series, which also features Simon Delaney, will air later this autumn.
