On last week's show Dan was seen going to hospital after he admitted at the first weigh-in that he had been suffering from stomach cramps and had been passing blood.

The issue was investigated by medics and after following tests, doctors have diagnosed Dan with severe colitis.

He remains in hospital where he is currently being monitored and undergoing tests.

Kathryn Thomas paid a visit to Dan in St Michael's Hospital in Dun Laoghaire last Friday, just after he was given the devastating news.

"He was so devastated, not only for himself but also for his followers," the TV presenter revealed in her column in the Irish Daily Star.

"Dan is a man of great determination and the idea of not being able to continue was very difficult for him to accept."

Kathryn used her visit to find out what Dan looks for in a woman, in an effort to help him find romance.

"Honestly ladies of Ireland, if you are single and looking for a decent, genuine, funny, charming and incredibly sweet guy, you would be hard pushed to find somebody better than Dan.

"But he warned, he likes a clean house, doesn't mind dogs but cats are a definite no-no and loving his mam Kay is a must... which I can guarantee will never be an issue for you either because she is adorable."

Kathryn said that the Dubliner knows that he needs to focus on his health and she hopes his illness will serve as a reminder for people to not ignore any health concerns they may have.

She also revealed that despite the difficult news, the 44-year-old remains in good spirits.

"The thing I love most about Dan is his love for his family and his sense of humour," she said.
