'It was the same foundation Jamelia used on The Voice' - Hughie Maughan explains his DWTS fake tan faux pas
It may have been 'ladies' night' on 'Dancing with the Stars' but Hughie Maughan and his fake tan faux pas stole the show.
The former 'Big Brother' contestant applied 10 layers of St Tropez before broadcast.
His mahogany complexion caused a stir on social media with viewers asking whether he had accidentally coated himself in Ronseal varnish.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio One this morning, he explained why he ended up with such an extreme tan.
"I sprayed on tan I normally use myself but when I got to the studio yesterday I started sweating [under the lights] and I wiped my face and I ended up looking like a Dalmatian.
"It was all patchy so we had to get this foundation that is normally used for African skin."

He added the the foundation make up he used was the same foundation Jamelia used on the RTE programme The Voice last year.
"When we put it on we realised how dark it was but it was two minutes to air so I had to walk out wearing it."
While some were critical of Hughie's appearance, he said he had "no regrets" coating himself in the tan.
"The [people sharing] bad comments, they can get a grip.
"I just find it funny. I'm completely bonkers when it comes to certain things. That would not bother me. To me, it's a laugh. It has made people speak about me which is probably a good thing. It is a TV show after all."
It was 'Ladies' Night' on the entertainment show with six female contestants hitting the dance floor.
RTÉ broadcaster Teresa Mannion incorporated her infamous weather broadcast into her routine as she danced the tango to 'Here Comes the Rain Again' by Eurythmics.
'Red Rock' star Denise McCormack impressed the judges with her jive routine to Taylor's Swift's pop song 'Shake it Off'.
She scored an impressive 22 points from the judges.
However, Dr Eva Orsmond didn't do as well.
The health nut strutted about to 'Doctor Beat' by Miami Sound Machine. However, the judges felt her performance was lacking spark.
