The Dubliner, who is up for an Academy Award for Room (which has three other nominations), will be directing his first tv series starring Hugh Laurie.

According to industry magazine Variety, Abrahamson will direct Laurie's return to the small screen in Chance, a new psychological drama for Hulu, which has been commissioned for 20 episodes.

Laurie won two Golden Globes (with four more nominations) and five Emmy nominations for his role in House during its run from 2004 to 2012, indicating they both could be headed toward further critical success with their upcoming collaboration.

Chance is psychological thriller in which Laurie plays a San Francisco based  forensic neuro-psychiatrist.

"After an ill-advised decision regarding an alluring patient who may be struggling with a multiple personality disorder, he finds himself in the crosshairs of her abusive spouse who also happens to be a ruthless police detective. In over his head, Chance’s descent into the city’s shadowy underbelly, all while navigating the waters of a contentious divorce and the tribulations of his teenage daughter, soon spirals into an ever deepening exploration of one of mankind’s final frontiers — the shadowy, undiscovered country of the human mind," the magazine reports.
