The stars of Celebrity Operation Transformation may be put through a gruelling exercise regime, but Katherine Lynch is making sure she does it in style.

The comedian sported a pair of red high heels for a trip to the swimming pool wit her fellow contestants Gerald Kean, Karl Spain and Brenda Donohue.

The Leitrim native admitted the unusual wardrobe choice was down to her nerves.

"It was week 1 and I still needed a tiny bit of costume just to get me through the fear of getting into a pool in my togs in a swimming pool in front of the nation," she said. "I wore them because I'm a punk and I bloody well am not going to do what I am told so I wore the high-heels so there was a little bit of defiance, a little bit of Katherine Lynch, a little bit of comedy, a little bit of glam.

"Otherwise I thought the camera was just going to have pictures of my cellulite bum," she said.

During the work-out, Katherine managed to keep her high heels on under water.

"I kept them on very tight and a lovely suction happened when I got into the water and I went 'oh that's great, they are going to have to ply them off with a pliers," she said.

"Actually I was able to do the walking and everything underneath the water pretty good in the high heels.

"I think it gave me a little bit more of a stride," she added.

Celebrity Operation Transformation starts tonight at 9.35pm on RTÉ One
