The fledgling channel, which began broadcasting on January 1 this year, hit its highest monthly share at 7.4 per cent making it the second most watched channel in Ireland in peak time throughout the month.

Its 10.3 per cent share put it ahead of TV3 at 7.7 per cent and RTE2 at 6.9 per cent.

Its success is thanks in the main to the channel having exclusive rights to hugely popular reality series I'm a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here!.

Tony Hadley, Yvette Fielding, Chris Eubank, Jorgie Porter, George Shelley, (bottom from left) Kieron Dyer, Lady Colin Campbell, Duncan Bannatyne, Brian Friedman and Susannah Constantine, the contestants for I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! 2015.

A consolidated audience of 409,000 tuned in each episode with 420,000 watching Vicky Pattison crowned Queen of the Jungle on Sunday.

Daniel and Majella's Road Trip, which saw singer Daniel O'Donnell and his wife Majella traverse the country to stay at the B&Bs of fans, has proved a success for the channel, drawing an average 270,000 viewers across six episodes.

"It also generated strong social media figures, with 2.7 million Facebook posts about the series and over one million Tweets using the series hashtag," said Head of Channel Mary Curtis.

UTV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, the rights to which were previously held by TV3, continue to boost ratings for UTV Ireland with an average 472,000 and 353,000 tuning in respectively.

However, it may prove difficult to hold on to this share through December and the new year as both I'm a Celebrity and Daniel & Majella have both wrapped.

The channel will be relying on Kevin Dundon's two Christmas specials, as well as Kevin Dundon's CHristmas Coking Tips in December.

In January agriculture series Rare Breed returns as does Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, a new series of Mr Selfridge, and new dramas Beowulf, Jericho and Dr Thorne.
