'I have to work twice as hard as everybody else' - Operation Transformation's Chris McElligott exceeds target yet again
Operation Transformation leader Chris McElligott has exceeded his weight loss target yet again.
At this week's weigh in, Chris exceeded his weight-loss target of 2lbs and lost 3lbs, bringing his total weight-loss to date to 1 stone 4.5lbs.
Chris, who lives in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, with his partner Elizabeth and their three children, told The Ray D'Arcy Show today: "It wasn’t easy. I have to say that. I think a lot of people find it difficult but it definitely wasn’t easy and the experts did give me all the tools."
Sixteen year's ago, Chris's right leg was severed below the knee in a road accident. He was on his way home to play a soccer match when the van he was driving was jack-knifed by a truck.
"I think the most difficult part of it for me is having to work twice as hard as everybody else because I’m an amputee," he said.
"Not only am I an amputee, as anybody who’s an amputee will tell you, it’s much harder to work as an above knee amputee than it is as a below knee amputee. But excuses aside I’ve really enjoyed every bit of it so the fact that I’m working twice as hard as everybody else does take its toll on my body."
On this week's show, Chris went on his first date with his partner Elizabeth in over a year and got fitted for a suit for the occasion.
"To go into a shop and try on a suit, the first suit the man handed me and for it to fit me was so empowering. Ciara referred to me as ‘Daniel Craig’ but I’m not too sure about that one!"
Chris also revealed that he leaves treats around his house to "test himself."
“I actually purposefully left sweets hanging around... to test myself. And I’ve purposefully left crisps lying around because I want to be able to have that temptation and be able to say ‘no I’m not going to do it.’”
