Francis bagged the gong for ITV's Celebrity Juice ahead of BBC One's The Graham Norton Show.

The Irish star was hosting the show and had to return to the podium following Francis' acceptance speech.

Norton (53) clapped enthusiastically and said, "Yeah, give it up.  He is good.

"That had kept me going.  I may collapse now.  'At least I might win an award near the end', but now I haven't!"

Tom Hiddleston consoled him by saying he had won an award "in my heart".

However, viewers were not impressed that Norton lost out on the BAFTA, and some were particularly galled he lost out to Celebrity Juice.

Norton did manage to ruffle a few feathers with his opening monologue, and his quip about Sheridan Smith.

The 34-year-old actress had reportedly slurred her words during the opening of her show Funny Girl on the West End.

'Technical difficulties' were blamed when the show had to be cancelled.  Norton said, "We're all excited for a couple of drinks tonight.  Or as it's known in theatrical circles, a few glasses of 'technical difficulties'."

The actress was not impressed by the joke and neither were her fans, who also took to Twitter to slam Norton.

However, many others found the joke hilarious.
