IT may have got off to a bumpy start in the ratings – however this weekend will see the ‘Million Euro Challenge’ crown its first millionaire.
The Nicky Byrne-fronted lotto game show replaced long-time favourite Winning Streak on RTE One Saturday nights, much to the dismay of many viewers.
However this weekend viewers will see a lucky Kildare family walk away with the show’s top prize, according to The Star.
Taxi driver Martin Burke from Naas in Co Kildare scooped the massive sum during the TV recording of the show yesterday.
The TV show has to be recorded on Wednesdays – as it shares the same studio with the Saturday Night Show, which wouldn’t leave enough time between the broadcasts to swap the sets and audience.
The Burke family are now expected to collect their winnings at National Lottery HQ on Dublin’s Abbey Street in the coming days.
More than a dozen family relatives travelled to RTE for the recording.
TV and lotto bosses will be hoping the huge giveaway will give the show a much needed lift in the ratings, as some viewers were turned off - complaining the format was complicated.
