EastEnders plans shock disaster storyline next week... more fan favourites to be killed off?
Show bosses have revealed that a huge disaster storyline is planned for next week.
The epic storyline will take place from Monday, January 23 and sees Walford thrown into chaos, following a shock disaster.
The drama kicks off when news breaks that the council is planning to visit the market. A furious Martin Folwer rallies the traders to stage an all-out strike but the fear of losing out on money is too great and they refuse his proposal.
As the residents carry on with their day, disaster strikes. Tuesday's episode will deal with the aftermath of the shock event but show bosses are keeping the details of the storyline under wraps.
Actress Tilly Keeper, who plays Louise Mitchell has said the storyline is must-watch TV. "I'd definitely tune in next week. They're unmissable episodes. Full of drama," the star told RadioTimes.com.
The storyline is so huge that it's forced producers to move some key events forward.
Many fans spotted that Mick Carter and Phil Mitchell both celebrated their birthdays a little earlier than usual in recent weeks, and a statement has now confirmed that this was all part of the plans for the special episodes, as a week’s worth will be covering the events of one 24-hour period.
A spokesperson for the soap told Digital Spy: “As a continuing drama, it is not uncommon for events to be moved in order to tie in with other storylines.
“Next week sees disaster strike in Walford, and these episodes all take place over one day, so in order for events to be played out in this way, other moments need to be moved slightly for story purposes.”
Fans of the show are speculating that some iconic characters might be killed off in a twist designed to keep viewers on the edge of their seat.
The disaster storyline follows a dramatic New Year's Day episode, in which Roxy (Rita Simmons) drowned in a swimming pool, shortly followed by her sister Ronnie Mitchell (played by Samantha Womack) who jumped in to save her.
