Difficult scenes are set to unfold in Fair City tonight as Dolores' breast cancer battle reaches a critical point.

Dolores (played by Martina Stanley) prepares for her biopsy by giving Orla three letters addressed to her, Wayne and Pete should anything bad happen.

As Pete and Wayne grow more anxious about the operation Dr. Alice appears and explains that there was a complication during the procedure and Dolores suffered a bleed in her lung.

She explains that Dolores was left in a critical condition and unconscious.  As Dolores’ condition worsens Fr. Berite is called to give Dolores her last rites leaving Pete overcome by emotion.

Of the storyline, Martina said, "Dolores has had a few rough months since being diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.

"And it hasn't just been tough for her; it's been really hard on her family too, having to watch her go through this difficult period of sickness and treatment.

"But if there's one thing we know about Dolores, it's that she is a very strong woman and she won't give up without a fight."

Fair City airs tonight (Thursday June 18) at 8pm on RTE One.
